The Supreme Court of Pakistan has begun hearing on the issue of dissolving the National Assembly and declaring the no-confidence motion unconstitutional by the Deputy Speaker National Assembly. The Supreme Court had constituted a large bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to hear the case. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam Mian Khel, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel are part of the tribunal.
It may be recalled that on Sunday, the Supreme Court, during the preliminary hearing of the suo motu notice case on the political situation in the country, refused to stay the Presidential order to dissolve the National Assembly and the immediate order against the rolling of the Speaker. All actions will be subject to the final decision of the court. A five-member bench of the Supreme Court will hear the case today (Monday).
During the hearing yesterday, Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandial said, "We will not allow any state institution to take any advantage of the current situation." Earlier, Maj. Gen. Babar Iftikhar, DG, Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR), had said that "what happened today has nothing to do with the organization."
The DG ISPR was asked by the local media whether today's action included the consent of the army. To which Major General Babar Iftikhar replied, "Absolutely not." On the other hand, the united opposition has said that Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi has openly rebelled against the country and the constitution, the punishment of which is mentioned in Article 6 of the constitution.

A joint statement issued on Sunday night said, "Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi's coup deserves less condemnation." The statement further said that the United Opposition has proved its clear majority in the House. The United Opposition and the 220 million people of Pakistan are hopeful that the Supreme Court of Pakistan will stand by the Constitution and rule in a fair, just and constitutional manner on the crisis created by the unconstitutional measures.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also announced to celebrate on Monday, declaring its yesterday's steps as victory. PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan said in a tweet yesterday, “Congratulations Pakistan! From tomorrow, insha'Allah, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will start celebrating in the Islamabad Blue Area (before entering the red zone) after Iftar. All workers and families are invited to attend. The celebration will continue for a week. Spectacular fireworks are also included in the program.
It should be noted that the rolling of Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri in the National Assembly session held yesterday for voting on the no-confidence motion surprised and disturbed everyone including the opposition. The Deputy Speaker, while acknowledging the point of Fawad Chaudhry, rejected the no-confidence motion in a rolling motion, saying that the motion was against the law and constitution and was under foreign agenda. After this rolling, a commotion started in the National Assembly.
Shortly afterwards, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced in his brief address to the nation that he had "sent advice to the President to dissolve the Assemblies." He said that caretaker governments would be formed in the country and new elections would be held. Shortly after the announcement of the Prime Minister, the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi approved the dissolution of the National Assembly under Articles 58 and 48 of the Constitution.
