The Supreme Court has requested the Punjab government to comprise a clinical board to inspect Sheraz Butt, a death row detainee determined to have schizophrenia in 2016.

A three-judge seat, including Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, heard the prison request, which was recorded in 2016.

Under section 66 of the 2021 "Safia Bano" judgment relating to insane detainees, the court requested the constitution of a clinical board for Butt in the following 15 days and requested the report to be submitted inside 30 days.

As per the judgment, the board should comprise of qualified clinicians and therapists from public area clinics.

Butt was condemned to death in 2012 for lethally wounding his mom four years sooner at his home in Lahore. Indications of his psychological instability were clear well before the episode happened, yet he was first determined to have schizophrenia by prison experts in 2016.
