Vitamin D deficiency will weaken muscles:
Food containing Vitamin |
Australia: There is an-other
news about vitamin D deficiency that may weaken the muscles, particularly within the elders. That’s why
vitamin D is currently more necessary for our body.
We know that vitamin D deficiency will cause severe colds, skin discoloration and many
other health problems. It is currently proven that vitamin D helps to fight against COVID 19. This daylight vitamin (vitamin D) is very important for us in many ways.
Now the news is that vitamin D deficiency plays a very important role in the functioning, capability and post-injury recovery of the elders.
Although, our body makes vitamin D in the presence of ultraviolet light from
the Sun. Vitamin D can be obtained from several foods and supplements. These foods comprise fatty
fish, egg yolks, cheese and many other items.

In this study, blood and tissue samples were taken from mice to estimate the quantity of vitamin D and calcium. Thus, the functions of mitochondria in muscles of mice were examined.
For three months, the rats were fed a diet free of vitamin D. Specialists detected that their muscles began to weaken and their functions were affected. On the other hand, there was 37% decrease in mitochondrial functions. However, there was no decrease in muscle volume and number of mitochondria.
But research shows that vitamin D deficiency severely affects the mitochondrial action. The mitochondria are the power house of the cells and build energy for the muscles. Vitamin D deficiency affects functions of muscles and may even cause Sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is a disease that leads to the generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength and it is linked with physical disability, poor quality of life and even cause death.
Andrew
Phillips, a Prof. at the Garvin Institute of Medical Research in
Australia told after the study that vitamin D
deficiency causes oxidative stress in skeletal muscles and has
harmful effects.
